SECURITY ADVICE

Set out below are some security tips for you to think about.

Think about the valuables you have in your room, eg, computer, laptop, TV, DVD player, personal documents, money, car keys, ipod, etc.

These valuable items will appeal to a thief and burglar.

Not only is a stolen or valdalized computer expensive to replace, but the information stored on the computer is invaluable. A whole semester's work and effort lost.

Mark Your Belongings

This may put burglars off because it will make the stolen items harder to sell, and can help the police investigate crimes and prosecute criminals.

Marking your property can help the police to return irreplaceable items if they are found.

Items should be visibly and permanently marked showing your postcode and the number of your flat.

Only use an ultraviolet marker pen when other methods would reduce the value of the object. Ultraviolet marks are not visible and so might not put burglars off or make it more difficult for them to sell the marked item. The marks can also fade.

Take pictures of all your valuables, write down the makes, models and serial numbers of your TV, video, DVD, stereo or CD player, home computer, camera equipment and so on. This will help the police identify them if they are stolen.

Be A Good Neighbour
