Course Rep of the Year
Nominations NOW OPEN!
April 2008
The University of Bolton Students' Union are hosting their annual awards event to celebrate the role of the Course Representative. The event recognises the effort, commitment and dedication given by the course reps. It also looks to celebrate the joint working between the students, the University and the Students' Union and the value that we place on the student voice. All students who have undertaken the role in the academic year 2007 / 2008 will be awarded a certificate for their contributions which is accredited by the University.
New for this year is the 'Course Representative of the Year Award' an accolade given to the most outstanding course representative. We are looking for an outstanding representative who has expressed the views of all learners on their course to the University and the Students' Union, someone who has made a difference to students on their course and helped to make positive changes for the benefits of all students on their course.
Do you know someone who deserves the award? Please vote for them by clicking on the link below. Voting is open to both STAFF and STUDENTS.

The Course Representative Award ceremony will take place early May 2008 at the Octagon Theatre in Bolton. Everyone who is on the database as a Course Representative for 2007 - 2008 will receive an invitation to attend. Places will be limited as the venue will only hold 100 people. At the event course representatives will receive a certificate accredited by the University of Bolton and the Students' Union. The certificate recognises your efforts and commitment during your involvement with the representation project.
NEW for this year will be the Course Representative of the Year Award. The award will be given to the Course Rep whom it is felt has dedicated their time to improving the learning and teaching experience of their peers. Your course leaders and peers will be invited to vote for you in the new year. We will also be taking into account attendance at course committee meetings and other school meetings, attendance at the Course Representative training sessions and attendance at Student Council meetings.
The award is being sponsored by The Co-Operative who have said:
"We are delighted to sponsor the Course Representative of the Year Award. Over the past two years The Co-operative have been supporting a range of initiatives with The University of Bolton, including the establishment of a University of Bolton Co-operators Forum, and continue to look forward to working together with the students" Jim Sherrington, Chair of the South Lancs Members Committee.

Last week, a meeting was held with the Director of School for Arts, Media and Education (Sam Johnson) to discuss a pilot project which will look at increasing student representation within the school. The School is particularly keen to get involved and we look forward to working together to create more opportunities for the student voice to be heard. A discussion was held about different ways of engaging with students and one of the ideas is to hold an Open Forum meeting with the School Director where all students from the school will be invited to talk about both their positive and negative learning experiences. The student comments and suggestions will be made into a report and fed into formal University meeting where they will be discussed. We hope that the open forum, among other pilot ideas will create greater student awareness within the University and enable us to build a more positive working partnership.
The first Open Forum meeting is due to take place week commencing 12th November 2007 so watch this space!
Keep an eye out for invitations to the Open Forum and other feedback events within this school - please take the time to get involved so that the student body is fully represented.

Well done to all the Course Representatives who successfully completed a year as a course rep over the academic year 2006/2007.
I hope you all enjoyed the experience and will continue to represent your peers in the coming term. If you have any comments or suggestions about the Course Rep system I would love to hear from you.
You should all have been issued with certificates to highlight your achievements over the year, but I seem to still have quite a few on my desk. If you have not received your certificate you can collect them from the Union Reception between 9am - 5pm.
If you have any problems you can reach me on
(01204) 900 863 or email me at: h.grailey@bolton.ac.uk
Thanks again!
