TRAINING SUCCESS!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the introductory training sessions for course representatives.  I enjoyed meeting and working with you all and hope that you found the training resourceful as you enter into your role.  I am only a phone call or email away if you need anything so please get in touch!

Over 45 of you got involved in the first set of sessions - but don't worry if you missed out! We are running more sessions in the new year.  You can also get in touch if you would like the training resources emailed to you.  You can drop me an email or give me a call on 01204 906863.

By-elections are now open to anyone who wants to fill the following positions on the Students' Union Executive Committee : Entertainments Officer: Anti-Racism Officer; Women's Officer; Campaigns & Education Officer; Mature Students Officer; Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Officer and International Officer.  We also have 2 places for students to become NUS conference delegates.

So, if you want to get involved or you think someone else on your course would make an ideal candidate then sign up!  Nominations close on the 22nd November 2007 at 12pm.  Visit the homepage of this website for more information or come down to the Students' Union reception to request a pack.

LAUNDRY SERVICE FOR ARTS, MEDIA & EDUCATION

If you've browsed the news section of the course rep page you will see that we are currently undertaking a pilot project in connection with the University to look at increasing the student voice.

One of the things we are arranging is an Open Forum Meeting on Thursday 15th November 2007, in the Main Lecture Theatre at Chadwick Campus from 4:45pm - 6:15pm.  The event is open to all Students from Arts, Media & Education and will not be attended by lecturers.

The event will be a question and answer session led by Sam Johnson, Director of School for Arts, Media and Education - a chance for all students to 'air their dirty laundry' about their learning and teaching experience.

Can I ask that you consider attending and encourage your fellow students to attend also.  There are other events being planned so watch this space!

TOP TIP!

Some students in your class will be vocal about their issues and actively seek you out to tell you about their experiences.  Some students will sit quietly and never utter a word.  The voice of the silent student is as important as the vocal one!  It may be that these students are shy; their first language may not be English; or they may genuinely think that their course is hunky dory! - you will never know unless you ask - take time to speak to these students on a 1-2-1 basis or in small group situations.  Remember to represent one and all!
