 Keir Stitt

Keir Stitt - President

(1st July 2007 - 30th June 2008)

It’s going to be an exciting year ahead at The University of Bolton Students’ Union, and as your President I will be working on your behalf to ensure that the development of a single campus University is a success.

With all this change in the air I think it is more important than ever that students are at the heart of everything the University does, so I urge you all to get involved in what we do as a Union.

A good way to get involved is to become a Course Representative and become a fully trained and valued member of our Student Council, who ensure the quality of your course.

You could also become involved in our student media, for example, the newspaper Student Direct, and gain valuable skills that could help you get a job when you graduate.

Remember, our Advice Unit is always here for you should you need it.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me here at The Students’ Union with any of your problems throughout the year.

   Rayana

Rayana Mahgoub - Vice-President

 (1st July 2007 - 30th June 2008)

My name is Rayana Mahgoub, I am your Vice President for 2007/2008. This is my second year as Vice President, which is a full-time elected position and is part of the Executive Team which controls the day to day running of the Students’ Union.

There are many different areas that fall under my remit including finance, staff, entertainment, commercial services and clubs and societies, and if you would like to get involved in the Students’ Union do not hesitate to contact me.

A lot of our students here at Bolton are part-time and mature, and we cater for ALL students, so don’t just assume that the bar is a place with cheap drinks for 18 year olds because it’s not, it’s a comfy friendly venue for all to meet and socialise and that doesn’t have to incorporate drink.

Remember, what you get out of University life is only what you put in and University is meant to be the best time of your life, so make the most of it and get involved!

You will find me downstairs at the Students’ Union, where my door is always open, so come and see me anytime, I’m sure I’ll be able to help and, if not, I will definitely be able to point you in the right direction. The Students’ Union is exactly that: a Union which belongs to the students. The success of the Union depends on you guys, so if you have any suggestions relating to the running of the Union then let us know.

WE’RE HERE TO REPRESENT YOU.

ashleyHello, I'm Ashley Howell, and once again you have voted me in as your Clubs and Societies Officer. (email: suscoc@bolton.ac.uk)

Over the last year I gained valuable experience as your Clubs and Societies Officer, and helped a number of clubs to form.

This year, I will carry on making sure that the voices of all the different clubs and societies are heard, and  I will ensure I am available to help out a club or society when its needed, but if I can’t help I will point them in the right direction.

The popularity of clubs and societies within the SU is increasing dramatically, and I will offer help, advice and guidance to all new and existing clubs and societies. If you want to contact me, email me or call into the SU and leave a message.

Hi I’m HaHaleyylee Adams and once again I’m your Communications Officer . (Email: sucoms@bolton.ac.uk)

I made many improvements last year, yet I feel there is still much more that can be done.

This year is an exciting year with the Students’ Union moving to its new location and I intend to (amongst other things) make specialist material to help students having trouble accessing the facilities in the Union, publicise diversity, equality and environmental issues, make events and societies more publicised leading to more students making a change in their Union, publicise the SU logo on merchandise and  hold fundraisers and get the University of Bolton put on the map, in the papers and on the news.

I will make a difference this year, I will get the students what they need and deserve.  I will publicise all issues on campus.  I will make this year’s Union the year to remember.

BrynMy name is Bryn Croft and I am, again, your Environmental Officer. (email: suenv@bolton.ac.uk)   Last year I thoroughly enjoyed the position, and I am very proud that I was able to give students the option to recycle by asking Bolton council to provide recycling bins on Orlando and Hollins Halls of Residence which they did.

This year  I am looking forward to promoting an exciting environmental campaign which will help students and staff reduce their carbon footprint and raise awareness of how our actions are affecting the planet.

I have developed a number of good contacts over the year that will help me progress and provide more recycling facilities around the university. There is still a lot of recyclable waste not getting recycled in areas such as the canteens, Eagle Mall, and in the gym.

I know places that will recycle electrical equipment, and will be happy to inform you where to go if you have a monitor or a TV that you would like to get rid of.

If anyone has any environmental questions or problems they would like to ask me then don’t hesitate to approach me and I will do the best I can to help.

Warren

My name is Warren Griffiths and I am your Students with Disabilities Officer (email sudis@bolton.ac.uk)

First and foremost, I would like to say thank you for voting for me in the last three elections.

As I said before (and it bares repeating), I have Autism, in fact I have Aspergers Syndrome which is just about on the far end of the Autism spectrum.

As this university's two-campus era is coming to close (with the closure of the Chadwick campus) and the soon to be opening of the new and improved Eagle Mall (with a merged library and a new and improved Students' Union), I will co-operate with the people in charge at Eagle Mall to make this new and exciting part of the university more accessible. And that goes for the rest of this soon-to-be single campus university. Let's face it, who can forget about the position of the disabled toilets at the current Eagle Mall!

Also, I will persuade the university to invest more on specialist equipment, such as printers that print out in Braille as well as investing more on support workers.

Come and say hello or email me and I will get back to you.

MylesHi there, I’m Myles Dobson and I’ve been voted in as your Entertainments Officer (email: suents@bolton.ac.uk) for the next 12 months.

Next year is looking to be an interesting year for our SU and University. The movement of students from two campuses into one, combined with a shiny new SU, is practically bursting with potential; potential that you and I HAVE to make the most of. So basically, my job isn’t a job, it’s more of an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to get to know you, get drunk with you, and listen to your ideas.

Of  the students here at Bolton, each one of you has different tastes, different interests, and different ideas as to what constitutes fun, and I, being the psychic that I am, have to come up with stuff for you lot to do when you’re playing the ‘not study’ game.

You are my ideas, my inspiration, my motivation to get things done, and without you talking to me, without you joining in, complaining, praising, and getting drunk, you, me, him, her aren’t going to have much fun at all. So visit the Students’ Union or email me with your ideas and comments and let’s have fun.

AndrewHello, my name is Andrew Keyworth and I am your Equality and Diversity Officer.  (email: suanti-racism@bolton.ac.uk)

I was your Anti-racism Officer last year and helped with the creation of the Equality and Diversity Officer. This is because Anti-racism was too limited. During my last year I noticed certain groups had become elitist and I wanted to change this.

I believe in equality and the promotion of the diversity of our University.

I intend to support campaigns for people from all minority groups as well as the majority. I will ensure equality for every student and will always be around for all students no matter whom they are or where they are from. I will work actively with the Communications Officer to campaign for specialist publications for mature and part time students to ensure the Union is accessible to all. I will also work closely with the Disabilities Officer to ensure the Union and university caters for any requirements that they might have and to ensure that all students are treated equal.

If you have any issues or just want to chat with me call into the SU, leave a message or email me and we can have a meeting.
